NuBLAC Campaigns
. NuBLAC's founder, Joyce Black has been active as a community activist since she was a very young girl. She was well known . around her small southwestern Gulf Coast community of Bay City, Texas as a young Mother Theresa type figure.
She graduated High School and left home for college and many of the towns people were certain she would choose her life's path as a physician or social worker. Although neither of those professions became her career paths, Joyce remained busy helping people within any community where she saw a need.
The 1979 Los Angeles Times newspaper article a long with various 1980's - present photos depict stories of her continous community involvement.
In the late 1980's, Joyce Black founded a communtiy activist group WAAM, Women Against ALL Madness. According to the (late) LAPD official James Tatreau, Ms Blacks' graffiti cleaning efforts helped to reduce gang violence deaths in the South Central area of Los Angeles during the period of time WAAM was active. The Groups efforts earned the respect of many gang members and Joyce became known as "Captain MOM" in the street circles.
Wanderlust appears to be in her blood...If she is not preparing to make a long jaunt to raise funds for some cause or person, she was cleaning gang related graffiti from the streets of South Central Los Angeles with her crew. These were just a few ongoing activities while also offering total support to our American troops during the Desert Shield/Storm conflict. During this time Joyce became severely injured in anauto-pedestrian accident.
However, this did not lessen her commitment or halt efforts to send support packages to US troops and their children around the nation.
"Mama J" (affectionately called by some) moved back to her hometown in Texas in 2004 and continues to be involved in numerous community and national projects.
Deemed a stepper and one to get things done, Mama J has been described as the nations #1 Mom fighting for justice among African American Males & Individuals facing injustice.
To date, this busy lady continues to focus the organizations efforts on assisting several of her community's city employees to resolve matters of injustice occuring within their workplace, along with several other worth while projects.
